Healthcare Industry in Germany

Healthcare industry is one of the largest business branches in Germany. Through its innovation and employment intensity it clearly constitutes an important growth and employment factor. Due to demographic changes the share of health care in the economy is expected to increase significantly.

The healthcare industry is currently undergoing fundamental change: instead of constituting a cost factor which burdens the economy and the labour market, the healthcare business presents itself as a growth industry and innovation driver of paramount importance for Germany’s sustainability. This paradigm shift and the growing global demand for health related products and services have motivated numerous regions in Germany to identify, enhance and present their individually expertise in the healthcare sector.
German Health Regions aim to:

• become an innovative and efficient business location for health related expertise and services
• improve health care and quality of life in a committed manner
• generate a growing demand for health related services on a national and international level
• significantly raise employment activity rates at health related facilities and companies

Those aims and operational fields will characterise the activities of the German Health Regions Network Association (Netzwerk Deutsche Gesundheitsregionen e.V., short NDGR) in the coming years. The network NDGR is an umbrella association of the leading German Health Regions and incorporates more than 1,000 institutions within the healthcare industries- from basic research, research and development institutes to healthcare services. It is thus unique in Europe. The network also seeks broad exchange and co-operation with consumers and patients, with representatives of the business community and politicians as well as with the general public.
Co-operation within the Network of German Health Regions is supposed to sharpen the image of the healthcare business- in national and international perception.
